TEETH WHITENING

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular dental treatments available and is a great way to brighten and improve your smile.

With our home whitening kit, you will require an impression of the teeth to be taken to make a custom mouth guard to hold the whitening gel, containing carbide peroxide, against the teeth. That means whitening results will be more consistent and longer-lasting compared to over-the-counter whitening products that provide a one-size-fits-all solution.

Once the mouth guard is made, it is worn for a period of time, as instructed by the Clinician at your appointment. The amount of time may vary from a couple hours a day, or all night, for up to four weeks or longer, if desired.

What if my teeth are deeply discolored?

Some types of discoloration cannot be treated with whitening – for instance, discoloration that occurs when the interior portion of a tooth is badly damaged or decayed or following a root canal. In those cases, tooth-colored porcelain veneers or crowns can provide a great solution.

What prevents staining and discolouration?

Most staining and discoloration of teeth is related to the foods and beverages that are consumed. Foods and drinks with dark colors, including coffee, red wine, tea and fizzy drinks contain pigments that can stain teeth.

Poor oral hygiene habits and infrequent professional cleanings can also contribute to a dull smile.

To prevent staining, brush and floss and use a straw when consuming beverages known to stain. Also be sure to have teeth professionally cleaned every six months to remove stains and to learn how to improve brushing and flossing techniques.
